Corruption report expected in two to three days

The International Cricket Council's (ICC) anti-corruption unit has been asked to submit a report within the next three days on an investigation into alleged corruption within the Pakistan team.
British police have confiscated the mobile phones of test captain Salman Butt and pace bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif after a newspaper report alleging players had been bribed to fix incidents in the fourth test against England.
Tour manager Yawar Saeed said the trio plus wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal had been questioned by police at the team's London hotel.
ICC president Sahrad Pawar told reporters on Monday the issue had been discussed in a teleconference which included the head of the council's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit Ravi Sawani, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt and his English counterpart Giles Clarke.
"We at the ICC are waiting for definite information from the PCB and our own anti-corruption unit. We hope to get something in the next two to three days' time and that information would lead to appropriate action, if required," he said.
ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said in a statement anti-corruption officials were assisting London metropolitan police with their separate criminal investigation.
"Make no mistake, once the process is complete, if any players are found to be guilty, the ICC will ensure that the appropriate punishment is handed out. We will not tolerate corruption in this great game," Lorgat said.

DONKEYS PELTED
On Monday the police said they had released on bail a 35-year-old man who had been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud bookmakers following the report in The News of the World newspaper.
According to the report Mazhar Majeed, an agent who claimed to represent 10 Pakistan players including Butt, said Amir and Asif had bowled three no-balls between them by pre-arrangement in the fourth test against England which finished on Sunday.
Despite the growing criticism against Butt, Asif and Amir, former Pakistan captain Imran Khan said the trio should be given a fair hearing.
"I think justice demands that these players be given a chance to defend themselves and clear themselves. It is unfair to assume these players are guilty," Imran told reporters in Islamabad.
Pawar ruled out the possibility of Pakistan cutting short their tour of England.
"It is the desire of the ICC and the cricket boards of England and Pakistan that the game should continue," he said.
The team arrived in Taunton in west England on Monday where they will play a warm-up game against Somerset on Thursday before starting a seven-match one-day series against England from Sunday.
A source in the team told Reuters Pakistan could release any player who was under investigation. The one-day team is led by Shahid Afridi who was scheduled to have talks with Butt and manager Yawar Saeed on Monday.
"The meeting on Monday is important because obviously some players in the squad who are not under investigation are feeling uncomfortable with the whole situation leading up to the one-day series," said the source, who declined to identified.
"The prospect of releasing the players who are under investigation from the one-day squad and replacing them is under consideration and will be discussed at the meeting."
The newspaper report also cast doubt on the second test between Pakistan and Australia in Sydney this year when Australia made a remarkable comeback to win by 36 runs after overcoming a 206-run first-innings deficit.
The scandal has outraged cricket fans in Pakistan where protestors in Lahore slapped donkeys with shoes and pelted them with rotten tomatoes on Monday.
Protesters led a procession of donkeys with the names of the players accused of taking bribes stuck on the foreheads of the animals.
"These players have let us and the country down. We are already facing so many problems because of the floods and terrorism and they took away our one source of happiness," one protestor told a television channel.

ICC rules out Pakistan abandoning England tour

International Cricket Council (ICC) President Sharad Pawar has ruled out the possibility of the Pakistan team abandoning their tour of England following allegations of spot fixing.
"It is the desire of the ICC and the cricket boards of England and Pakistan that the game should continue," he told reporters on Monday.
Pakistan test captain Salman Butt, fast bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif and wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal were questioned by police at the team's hotel in London following a report in a Sunday newspaper that players had been bribed to fix incidents during the fourth test against England at Lord's.
The allegations centred on three no-balls from Amir and Asif which The News of the World newspaper said had been bowled by pre-arrangement.

ENGLISH COUNTERPART
Pawar and other ICC officials, including the head of council's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) Ravi Sawani, discussed the issue with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt and his English counterpart Giles Clarke.
After the teleconference, Pawar said ACSU had been asked to submit a report in the next couple of days.
"We discussed it in detail but one thing is there, British police are in the process of investigation. They have not completed the investigation, they have not called any player for interrogation either.
"So unless the investigation is complete and we get a prima facie report, it will be difficult for the Pakistan board to take appropriate action.
"The PCB president himself has inquired and prepared a confidential report which he sent to the president and prime minister of Pakistan. He is expecting some guidance from the country's leadership.
"We at the ICC are waiting for definite information from the PCB and our own anti-corruption unit. We hope to get something in the next two to three days time and that information would lead to appropriate action, if required."
Earlier on Monday, Pawar told a news conference in Mumbai the sport's governing body would be ruthless if any player was found guilty of spot fixing.
"If, unfortunately, there is a truth (in the allegations) then ruthless actions will be taken," he said.
"I am absolutely confident that both boards -- English and Pakistani -- will never encourage or protect anybody who has done a wrong thing."
Pakistan are due to play two Twenty20 matches and five one-day internationals against England, who won the test series 3-1.

Fight over kashmir

why this jaleel is talking all non-sense stuff bt Kashmir's independence. What does Kashmir have to survive on its own. It has only India to look upto for all its needs. If these people want Pakistan immediately leave Kashmir..and go to see the sorry state of a country like Pakistan. Atleast now they are linked to India, which gives them respect and sense of dignity. Otherwise linked with Pakistan or an independent state they will looked upon as a state maligned with terrorism..like Pakistan, Afghanistan etc. I feel sorry for these people devoid of brain..Every Indians are our brothers, even kashmiris as much as mumbaikars or delhites. Accept it and start loving our nation 'India'

MSD & I

our captain mr. cool in his younger days. hey where the hell are long hair .. what i did is compared myself with dhoni in his younger days and i found that we both have same sense of humour and skills still he is far away from me .when ll i get a chane thats the Q after indias dismal performance

Dhoni loses top spot, Sehwag rises in ICC ODI rankings

dinesh karthik & rohith sharma should be sacked from indian team .. dont know why they are getting so many oppurtunities even after failing so many times.sourabh tiwary should have got a chance atleast in one match . even ravindra jadega is a not suitable player to bat at that position.these players are the worstest players india has ever seen. they might have played very well in the domestic circuit but when it comes to international arena you must perform well.a request to the selection committee to select players who are dashing, brilliant in their game but not like these buggers dinesh karthik, murali vijay, rohith sharma, ravindra jadega

Buzz Up Pakistan captain Butt not stepping down

In the post match press conference, after Pakistan suffered an innings loss to England at Lord's, Butt was also asked whether Pakistan deliberately lost the Sydney Test against Australia earlier this year, but he did not answer.

Pakistan manager Yawar Saeed deliberately changed the topic and when the captain was asked whether he was going to resign, Butt asked: 'Why?'

'We won a Test against Australia after 15 years, and against England. These are just allegations, anyone can say anything about anyone, that doesn't make them true,' Salman maintained.

When asked if the ODI series will take place, Yawar said: 'As far as I am concerned, it is on.'

Yawar also came out in defence of young fast bowler Mohammad Amir, saying: 'Mohammad Amir is a young bowler who has done very well in his career. He is disappointed to have been involved in these allegations.'

Salman said that his team has given its best.

'Definitely we have given our best, it's just that the conditions have been difficult for the batsmen. Every person has given 100 percent, but not every time can you achieve what you want,' he said.

Salman, along with fast bowlers Amir, Mohammed Asif and wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal were questioned by the Metropolitan Police after they arrested London-based Mazhar Majeed who allegedly lured Amir and Asif to deliver three blatant no-balls in the Test match.

In a sting operation conducted by The News of the World, it was revealed that Mazhar received some 150,000 pounds from the tabloid and promised the undercover reporter that the fast bowlers will bowl no-balls at the agreed moment of the game.

On the basis of video evidence given by the tabloid, Scotland Yard launched their own investigation into the scandal. Saeed confirmed that Scotland Yard police officials had questioned him and several players in connection with match -fixing allegations.

indias preperation for 2011 world cup

INDIA did not seem at any instant that they gonna win the match , every one including was trying to safeguard their sides. Their was no attempt made to even get closer to SL total , India needs to rethink its strategy of Selection, they cannot afford to enter world cup 2011 with this irresponsible team.
Dhoni Captaincy is under Question mark?
Current players like Karthik, Kholi, Rohit and Raina are not good enough to play at this level when given the responsibility to drive India to Victory stage was well set for them to perform in the Final, we cannot blame the conditions, pitch and umpiring 300 was chasable
This is most critical stage and selectors surely would be thinking of getting new players for upcoming matches ........ALL Indians would be please to see some fast bowlers making debut still one to go for world cup 2011.
India wants Sewag to be the captain and dhoni should play as as keeper batsman.
Team India will look different side when sachin, Gautam and Bajji comes back.
Aussies had already started planning their strategies for their upcomng tour of India, India to be aware not to Fall under their trap .

A bunch of indian jokers

Ugly & shame performance by Indian Team. Coach should coach our Team to bat and bowl and instead they are doing football practice. Nowadays Cricket has been the only relyable game for India to win titles but it has changed. Its better to give all Indian players total rest for one year , they should also never act in adds. All Srilanka Toured Indians should be punished becz of their worst performance. I think Indian might have learnt a lot from Srilankans. Only has to save India for their performance in both T20 and World cup - One day Intnl.

indan players shall be stopped from doing advertising

Indian players must avoid to concentrate advertising. Indian is the biggest and largest country in the wordl, but indian cricket player are sike. Indian player play for india, not for time pass. India must always win, because india have 100 crore people, out of this atlease 1 % people have high skills, so unskilled players must volunterly move out from team. If indian team failed india fail, so play for india.

is wrong team selection reason behind team india's humilating loss in final

in India every selector do not want to select a perfect team combination even it is available because they want they should have the work always their demand to select a team to make big meetings
in five atar hotels and make them in headlines

after every loss they have the same work again , they do not feel the value of the sentiments of more than 125 core people i feel in test and in one dayers and even in twenty twenty india have best plyaers if they are selected but then team managements job is finished which they do not want

who is in indian selection commety has ever accepted his moral resposibility and resingned after the havy losses in world cup, twenty twenty world cup or in any tounaments where india is having a record of so many uncounted losses, no one feels that but they are busy in making money thorugh selection or other things every person do not have the courage to exposed long time back mohinder amarnath did the thing so he was treated badly by the bunch of jokers and kale also who is not in any picture because he make if public that he paid for selection

Dhoni's series-winning streak ends as Lanka clinch title

Dambulla: Sri Lanka rode on Tillakaratne Dilshan's century to clinch the tri-series title with an emphatic 74-run win over India on Saturday, ending Mahendra Singh Dhoni's sequence of four consecutive series triumphs on Sri Lankan soil. The hosts first amassed an imposing total of 299 for eight largely built around Dilshan's (110) eighth ODI century and then shot out the visitors for 225 in 46.5 overs in a rather lop-sided floodlit contest.
The Indians paid the price for a sloppy bowling display which allowed the hosts to put up a big total on the board on what appeared to be a good batting track at the Rangiri Dambulla International stadium. It turned out to be Dhoni's first ODI series defeat on Sri Lankan soil, as the hosts had lost to India in four finals in the past two years at home, with the most recent being the Asia Cup in June.
The hosts lost a five-match bilateral series 3-2 in 2008 and another 4-1 in early 2009. Later that year India beat Sri Lanka in a tri-series final also involving New Zealand.
While Dilshan, who notched up his maiden century on Sri Lankan soil, played a pivotal role in his team's victory, captain Kumar Sangakkara (71) and Mahela Jayawardene (39) chipped in with useful contributions. Chasing a stiff target of 300 for win, only Dhoni could provide some resistance with a gritty 87 while a few other batsmen like Virender Sehwag (28), Virat Kohli (37) and Suresh Raina (29) got the starts but could not make it count.
The Indian innings began on a disastrous note with Dinesh Karthik, who has been having a wretched time with the bat, being dismissed for a duck off Lasith Malinga. Unfazed by the early loss of his opening partner, Virender Sehwag luanched into the offensive with a flurry of boundaries picking up Nuwan Kulasekera and Angelo Mathews for special treatment.
But Sehwag's belligerence was shortlived as he was run out trying to steal non-existent leg bye, much to the disappointment of his team-mates. Sehwag survived a confident shout for leg before after he was hit on the pads by a Kulasekara inswinger but the appeal was turned down by the umpire.
He then tried to steal a leg bye and turned back but it was too late by then to beat a direct hit. The Indians then suffered another jolt when Yuvraj Singh also returned to the pavilion, falling prey to Thisara Perera with a ball which kicked up from short of length.
Virat Kohli, who was shaping up well, was accounted by Perera a few minutes later to reduce the visitors 109 for four in the 22nd over. Captain Dhoni and Suresh Raina then tried to steady the ship by not taking too many risks as the asking rate climbed up to more than seven runs per over.
The duo added 49 runs for the fifth wicket before Raina (29), in a bid to accelerate the pace of scoring, went for a mighty heave but mistimed the shot and Dilshan took a well-judged catch at the cover region.
Electing to bat, it was not a fiery start for the hosts as both the Lankan openers took some time to settle down and opened up gradually to pile up the misery on the visitors. There was a minor altercation between Dilshan and Munaf Patel, who collided with the batsman in the seventh over, but normalcy was restored after umpire Asad Rauf and Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni intervened and pacified the two players.
Dilshan was more aggressive of the two openers, who raised the best opening partnership of the series so far by putting on 121 for the first wicket. Ishant Sharma provided the breakthrough for the visitors by evicting the experienced Mahela Jayawardene (39) with Dinesh Karthik latchinng on to a well-judged catch.
Jayawardene reached forward and tried to wrist a length delivery across the line but only succeeded in spooning a catch to Karthik at the sweeper cover. But his dismissal came only after he had achieved a personal milestone of completing 9000 runs in ODIs, becoming only the third Sri Lankan to achieve the feat after Sanath Jayasuriya (13,428 runs) and Aravinda de Silva (9824 runs).
Part-timer Yuvraj Singh then struck for his team by dismissing Upul Tharanga (6) who edged the ball to captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni behind the stump. After the two quick wickets, Dilshan and captain Kumar Sangakkara re-build the innings by playing cautiously. The duo kept the scoreboard ticking by gentle nudges and pushes before unleashing some exquisite shots on both sides of the wicket.
The two batsmen piled up the runs with ease and with the Indian pacers struggling to check the run flow, the Indians badly missed the services of a specialist fifth bowler. Dilshan, who slowed down in the 90's, took two runs off Ishant to notch up his eighth ODI century and his first on Sri Lankan soil. It was his third ton against India.
Dilshan, however, could not survive for long after completing his century with Ishant Sharma taking a good catch on the boundary line off Praveen Kumar. Munaf Patel then removed Sangakkara with Rohit Sharma taking the catch while Nehra accounted for Chamara Kapugedera (12) to slow down the scoring rate just a bit. But a series of no-ball, wides and some lusty hitting by the late order batsmen in the slog overs ensured that Sri Lanka had a healthy total.

New sting video shows Pak cricketers meeting Majeed

More video footage which could implicate two new players of the Pakistan cricket team in allegations of corruption was released by British tabloid ''News of the World'' tonight. The video shows arrested bookie Mazhar Majeed taking cash from the undercover reporter of the tabloid and putting it in a jacket.
Majeed is seen telling the undercover reporter that he needs to pay 10,000 pounds in advance before Pakistani players could be introduced to him. The reporter then gives Majeed 10,000 pounds and the two drive to a hotel where the Pakistani team is dining.
He then introduces the reporter to two Pakistani players -- Umar Amin and Wahab Riaz. The video concludes with Majeed giving the jacket to one of the players.
This is the second video released by the tabloid, which has created a storm by having Majeed reveal details of ''spot-fixing'' by seven Pakistani players during the just-concluded Lord''s Test, which England won by an innings and 225 runs, in a sting operation. Pakistan skipper Salman Butt and pacers Muhammed Asif and Muhammed Aamir have had their mobile phones confiscated and there are reports that the players whose names have cropped up in the scandal may have also had their passports taken by the police

Abhishek slams 113 to help Mumbai to 284 against Punjab

Chennai, Aug 29 (PTI) Mumbai skipper and all-rounder Abhishek Nayar slammed a century (113) to help his side make 284 all out in the allotted 90 overs against Punjab in the final of the Buchi Babu Memorial Cricket tournament here today. Electing to bat, Mumbai lost their openers cheaply and then Kaustab Pawar (31) and Abhishek Nayar got together to redeem the situation.
The pair added 95 runs for the third wicket in 28.1 overs. Left-hander Abhishek hammered 12 fours and two sixes in his 247 minute stay at the wicket.
He faced 165 balls. Later, Vikrant Yeligetti chipped in with 34.
Punjab''s leg spinner Rahul Sharma claimed four for 85 in three spells, while medium pacer Love Ablish took 2 for 39

Saina conferred Khel Ratna

New Delhi, Aug 29 (PTI) Badminton ace Saina Nehwal, whose phenomenal rise was highlighted by three top-flight international titles recently, was today conferred the coveted Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award at a glittering ceremony here today. Saina''s achievements in the past one year made her an automatic choice for the prestigious award, the highest sporting honour in the country.
The Hyderabadi shuttler though did not collect the award, which consists of a medal, citation and cash prize of Rs 7.5 lakh, personally as she is yet to return from Paris where she lost in the quarter-finals of the World Championships. An Arjuna awardee last year, Saina rose to number two in world rankings and also completed a hat-trick of international titles, including back-to-back Super Series victories in Singapore and Indonesia in June.
Former Indian hockey skipper Sandeep Singh and women''s cricket captain Jhulan Goswami were among the 15 sportspersons who received the Arjuna Award from President Pratibha Patil at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Boxer Dinesh Kumar, swimmer Rehan Poncha, world''s second youngest Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi and Olympian wrestler Rajiv Tomar also received the Arjuna award for their achievements in the last one year.
Women hockey player Jasjeet Kaur Handa also missed the ceremony as she is now in Argentina for the FIH World Cup. No male cricketer got the honour, while Deepak Mondal was the lone footballer and Rajeev Tomar was the lone wrestler to get Arjuna award.
Others to get the award were Sanjeev Rajput (shooting), Kapil Dev (volleyball), Rehan Poncha (swimming), Dinesh Kumar (kabaddi), Rajesh Chaudhary (yachting) and Jagseer Singh (para-Olympian). Sandeep was in a superb form during India''s recent hockey tour of Europe, while seasoned pace-woman Jhulan is currently heading the bowling list of International Cricket Council''s ODI Women''s Rankings.
Dinesh had won the light heavyweight 81kg Commonwealth Championships title earlier this year, while Poncha would be India''s bets bet for a swimming medal in this year''s Commonwealth Games. Dronacharya Award, the top recognition for coaches in the country, was conferred on five including L Ibomcha Singh (boxing), Ajay Kumar Bansal (hockey), AK Kutty (athletics), Captain Chandrup (wrestling) and Subhash B Aggarwal (billiards and snooker).
The Arjuna and Dronacharya awardees got statuettes, citations and cash prize of Rs 5 lakh each. .

Match-fixing sting: Arrested 'fixer' claims Indian link

The alleged fixer arrested by Scotland Yard for 'spot-fixing' in the ongoing England-Pakistan Lord's Test claims to have links with bookmakers in India as well.
Mazhar Majeed, 35, told an undercover reporter of 'The News of the World' during a sting operation that there are no major activities when the "Indian market is not open".
Pakistan captain Salman Butt, pace duo of Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Aamir and four other players were questioned by the Scotland Yard detectives after Majeed, in the video of the sting operation, claimed that the team bowled no balls for money during the match.
In the the same recording, Majeed claims to know bookmakers in India as well. "....in terms of results, depending on who we are playing, sometimes it can be 300,000 pounds. The max it can be is 450,000 pounds. You can speak to any bookie in India and they will tell you about this information and how much they'll pay. If you had the information and they knew that it was coming from the source they'd pay you that money themselves," he is quoted as saying. "I deal with an Indian party. They pay me for the information."
In one conversation, the tabloid reported that "to hammer home the amounts of money our man could win, Majeed called an Indian bookie he regularly deals with and asked him how much he would pay for a definite Oval Test result. Majeed demanded 1.2 million dollars but the bookie replied, 'I'll give you one (million)'." Despite the scandal, the fourth day's play of the match would go ahead as scheduled today.
